The following are a selection of graphics I produced for a dissertation entitled Garden City in Japan: Streets of (Sub)Urban Den-en-chofu which I developed over the course of a semester. Drawing conclusions from an observation-based study, the 'garden city' of Den-en-chofu, Japan, is analyzed on multiple levels of urbanity (including Urban Context, Zoning, Street Hierarchy, Street Sections, and Parks and Wildlife) against Ebenezer Howard's Garden City proposal found in his Garden Cities of To-Morrow (1898). The study takes the European garden city of Letchworth as foil. The timeline graphic above and Den-en-chofu parcelization plan below were developed with a classmate, Nicollo Abe. The remaining drawings shown, as well as all subsequent research, are independent work.
